A Presidential Blow Out
By Sonia Brown
And
we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,
who
have been called according to his
purpose. (Rom 8:28)
This past Memorial Day my
family and husband parents went to Albuquerque, New Mexico to see my
son Justin Brown. You see, my son decided to ride his bicycle with four
other Baylor University students from Waco, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. He
wanted to bring awareness to Teen Suicide. His group is called the Alive
Campaign. During his ride we decided to meet up with him in Albuquerque to
bring him and his friends some encouragement. They were glad we did. On that
day they took time off from their ride to go the movies and out to eat
dinner with us. The following day we made plans to have breakfast with them
before we had to return to El Paso.
It was early the next morning
that we all headed to Crackle Barrel for some good ole home cooking. There
we ate, laughed, and heard the stories of their new experiences and
challenges. We prayed for them and blessed them. Then we had to say our
goodbyes. They went their way and we ours.
So, the family all jumped
into our SUV and headed back to our west Texas town of El Paso. The moment
that we were out of Albuquerque my husband, Tom, heard a horrible sound. The
car was shaking and he yelled, “What’s that noise?”
I quickly responded, “I think
it is a flat tire.”
So, he slowly pulled the car
to the side of the road into a medium. He got out of the car and discovered
that it was not just a flat tire but much worse, it was a blow out!
For those of you who don’t
know much about my husband he is not what you consider a handy man. I knew
we were in trouble. We needed help.
Luckily, we saw a police car
that was pulled onto the medium just a few feet from us. A police officer
was in the car. We were hoping she could help us in our time of crisis.
The police officer saw us
too. She drove up towards us, got out of her car and saw the tire blow out.
She shook her head and said, “You can’t be here. You have to leave. The
President of the United States is coming.”
We all explained to her that
we needed to change our tire and we needed some help in doing it. We were
all novices. We could not go anywhere with our tire the way it was. You
could tell she was very nervous. She told us to move our SUV up some more
and that she would see what she could do, but that we needed to hurry.
We did as we were told.
Meanwhile, several other police cars started to come towards us. There were
so many police officers that on both sides of the freeway cars were slowing
down to see who we were. It was unbelievable!
We had one officer attempt to
change our tire when a van carrying a dog pulled up beside us. The officer
in charge said, “Get out of the car, everyone of you! I need to check your
car for bombs. And leave everything in the car!”
We did this without
hesitation. It was really strange to see this big black dog go through our
entire car and sniff everything in site. The officer then said for us to get
back into the car as soon as possible. He gave orders to the officer who was
trying to fix our tire that there was no time. We needed to get into our car
and stay in it because the President of the United States was coming.
They closed up both sides of
the freeway and we sat in our car laughing at the whole incident. I wondered
if I should take pictures. I didn’t know if they would think I was trying to
shoot them or something but then I saw a police officer take out her camera,
and so I did the same.
Then we saw it. The
Presidential Motorcade. There were sirens and flashes of lights as several
motorcyclists, police cars, vans, and SUVs, drove down the freeway. We
didn’t see the President or at least we couldn’t tell which car he was in.
We just knew he was there. Then it was all over.
Several police cars came to
our aid. They put on the spare tire for us and even safely escorted us back
onto the freeway. What an experience we had that day.
The reason I share this story
with you is because God knows where you are at and what you need. The Bible
says that He answers us before we call. (Isaiah 65:24) God is always one
step ahead of us.
God knew that my son and His
friends needed some rest and encouragement. They had gone through some hot
and weary days. Therefore, He planned for us to refresh them.
He also knew that we would
have a tire blow out. He knew that we were inexperienced and they we would
need help. He planned ahead for us. He had the police force ready to provide
assistance to us. He gave us Presidential treatment!! He went above what we
could ask or imagine.
God knows the unexpected
bumps in the road that you will and are going through too. Have faith that
He will be with you. He has made plans for you to receive Royal treatment!!
You are a child of the King! You are His ambassadors! He will not abandon
you. He will put people in your path to encourage, refresh, and help you.
God knows how to deliver His people. He is Mighty to Deliver. Expect for the
best and see how He will come through. He is Faithful. Amen.
