My Steps are Ordered
By Sonia Brown
“In
his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.”-
Prov 16:9
New York, New York. What a
fabulous place to visit. This past summer my family and I had the pleasure
of visiting New York for the first time.
The moment we arrived from the airport we
were ready to see the sites. We couldn’t wait to get to our hotel, to drop
off our luggage so we could tour the city that never sleeps.
Thank God we had an early
flight so we could make use of our time. First stop was Time Square. We went
to NBC Studios, Radio Music Hall, and did lots and lots of shopping.
By the middle of the day we
were exhausted. We decided to go back to our hotel and take a nap.
We
traveled by subway to get a real feel of New York. As we were coming out of
our subway into our station on 103 Street we saw some paramedics rushing to
help a man. He was full of blood and in great pain. Immediately we began to
pray.
We came out at the exact same
time as this man. No one else was around. It was my family, this man, and
the paramedics. We then came out of the station and saw the ambulance
waiting. The paramedics hurried to put their patient in the ambulance.
Prayer was our first
call when we saw him. After praying for him, we proceeded to go to our
hotel. When we woke from our nap we turned on the television and discovered
we were on the news.
The
evening news stated that a man by the name of Christopher McCarthy was
stabbed on a subway. He was traveling with his girlfriend when a man on his
train for—no apparent reason—came up to him and stabbed him. He was in
critical but stable condition. The police were searching for the suspect.
I believe God wanted us there at that
specific time. You see, I later investigated more about this young man,
Christopher McCarthy, who was stabbed.
It was reported that 5 people
were on his subway. Christopher McCarthy, his girlfriend, a nurse, a retired
Navy paramedic and the person who stabbed him. God had a nurse and retired
paramedic there to assist Christopher! And if that wasn’t enough the Lord
had two pastors, my husband and I, at the subway station to pray for Mr.
McCarthy as he came out.
I usually pray (Prov 20:24)
“A man's steps are directed by the LORD” before I begin my day.
The Lord has a plan for this
gentleman. But not just for him, for all of us. We are all vessels for the
Master’s use. God wants to use you. Pray as I do and start your day by
submitting yourself to Him. Ask Him to use you and you’ll see that you’ll be
at the right places at the right time.
