Rolling in a Trash Can
By Sonia Brown
“Let
us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having
our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our
bodies washed with pure water.” (Hebrews 10:22)
My two sons, Justin and Caleb, really
needed to be clean on this certain day. It was a beautiful Saturday Morning.
They were playing hide-and-go seek outside our home. I needed Justin to
help clean up around the house so I opened the door and yelled for him to
come inside. I saw him on roller blades, skating down the street with a very
unusual look on his face. I knew that look. He looked mischievous. As I
watched him I saw that he was actually rolling our trash can with wheels on
it down the middle of the street. I was astonished.
I asked him what on earth he was doing with
our trash can.
He said, “Oh Caleb was inside and that he
was taking him for a ride.” Can you believe it? Taking his brother for a
ride inside a trash can!
I didn’t hesitate to scream for Caleb to
get out and for Justin to put up the trash can. They both came in and
quickly took a nice warm shower.
We, like my sons, get into all sorts of
messes in life. Some are more serious than others. But sooner or later we
have to repent and ask God to clean us up. He is the only one who can makes
things right. He is faithful and just to cleanse us of all unrighteousness
and of our guilty conscience. It’s the blood of Jesus that makes us white as
snow. Thank God for His blood. Amen!
